The Fix it Group 23 is a not-for-profit voluntary community interest organisation that is fully insured, set up to support people during difficult times and to reduce the number of items going to landfill and expensive to run recycling facilities until it is absolutely necessary.

The idea of the group was realised by John Fitzgerald who, with the support of close friend and colleague Paul Worth, together founded the organisation in 2023. Both John and Paul are passionate about the positive impact Repair Cafés have on their local community for both the people and the environment. It had always been John’s dream to be a part of a Repair Café, and it is through The Fix it Group 23 this became a reality when we hosted our first Repair Café at the Mountsorrel Memorial Centre Venue in October 2023. The overwhelming success of this café highlighted the true potential of the Fix it Group 23.

Our Story

Our Repairers

The Fix it Group 23 is overseen by a management committee. They are supported by the invaluable service of our dedicated Volunteer Repairers, all of whom share the same passion and interests. It is the hard work of our volunteers, who give up their own time to support the group, that makes it possible for The Fix it Group 23 to provide our services.

We provide a free of charge repair service for all repairs that are carried out other than if a part is required. If this is the case advice will be given as to where to obtain the part and the cost where possible. Once the part has been purchased by the customer then we will fit it FOC at the next session of the Repair Cafe. Any donations that we receive, once our cost of replenishing our stock of consumables and running cost have been taken out, will be donated to a local charity.

Our Services

The MMC Repair Café is a free community event, located at the MMC Café and focused on repairing things. You can bring a broken household item to the café where a volunteer will assess the item and will either fix it - whilst your grab a coffee and cake in the café - or will help you make a plan for how and where to get the item fixed.
